I really am a Missionary!!
It’s true.
I have photos to prove it.
Ok.. not on my actual person but I can get them.
I would like to present into evidence the following list:
(This is what I did in the last two days)
- Got lost four times while driving to the place I was to meet our team. (Ok Scott got lost 4 times but I had to endure it)
- Was bit the minute I got out of the car by a fire ant ( I hate those nasty little things)
- Visited many homes and helped deliver food and clothing.
- Carried above said food and clothing bags on my head.
- Was mistaken as Salvadorian because of bag on my head. ( Ok fine.. that is totally not true)
- Translated all day long.
- Stepped in dog poop.
- Stepped in chicken poop.
- Stepped in I don’t even want to know who’s poop.
- Prayed with people.
- Hugged ALOT of people.
- Walked through the rainy wet forest hoping that I would not be eaten by an anaconda.
- Almost died when a grasshopper jumped on me. ( In my defence I was thinking about the anaconda at the time)
- Hit my head really hard while getting in the back door of the bus. ( I have a wound)
- Didn’t let on that my head was killing, that I wanted to fall down and cry, and that I felt like the biggest dorkiest missionary ever.
- Slept on the floor ( I use the word slept VERY VERY loosely)
- Listened to millions of dogs bark at thousands of gobbling turkeys and clucking chickens.
- May have even had murderous thoughts towards all the barking dogs and livestock.
- Carried buckets of water up the stairs in order to flush the toilet.
- Nursed blisters, headaches, bug bites, scrapes. (None of which were mine)
- Helped with an “Extreme Front yard Makeover” at a small church.
- Slipped in mud while carrying brush to a dump zone. (I am telling myself that it was only mud that I fell in)
- Played with quite possibly the cutest kids in the world. ( One of which wore I shirt that said “I make dirt look good” and he sure did… I just wanted to squeeze him!)
- Did not shower. ( There were none)
- Discovered a new found love for lavender baby wipes.
- Helped fashion a swing out of a rubbermaid container.
- Ate really good food.
- Stood in a fire ant pile and totally got torn up by them ( You would have thought the first bite one day earlier would have taught me a lesson)
- Practiced my “charades” skills at the hardware store- out of necessity of course…. there are still A LOT of words that I don’t know in Spanish. ( What a gong show)
- Came home stinky
That about sums up the last 2 days for me. They were 2 of the best days I have had since coming to the mission field. I felt useful. I feel like I made a difference. I learned that I am stronger than I thought.
P.S. I also learned that I love my shower, fruity smelling soap, shampoo, and tea tree oil ( still keeping those piojitos away)… and I love my bed… oh how I love my bed.
Oh and one more thing… I was up in the night with a vomiting kid…. So now I can really say that I am a Missionary Mommy…a tired out but happy one!
